UFC 290 Volkanovski vs Rodriguez Breakdown

• Alexander Volkanovski vs. Yair Rodriguez

The main event is here and it is for the featherweight belt! Volk is coming in as a big favorite. Volk is coming off a decision loss while Yair is coming off a submission win. Yair on the feet has leg kicks for days and power. The wrestling is in favor of Volk and he can exploit Yair there. I am liking Volk in this fight to win the war!

• Brandon Moreno vs. Alexandre Pantoja

The co-main event and it is a big fight! Flyweight fight for the belt! This is the third fight between these fighters which means there is history! Moreno is coming in as the favorite but why is Pantoja a huge underdog? Moreno is coming off two knockout wins. Pantoja is coming off a submission win. The striking is in favor of Pantoja and has power plus volume. The grappling is going to be back and forth between these fighters. The later rounds will be the biggest question. I am liking Pantoja to win the belt!

• Bo Nickal vs Val Woodburn

Just play Nickal here...plain and sweet. Woodburn is coming on short notice. Woodburn is a guy who is from Combat Night and is undefeated. Nickal is the play still and this should be a easy fight for him.

• Robert Whittaker vs. Dricus Du Plessis

A middleweight fight! Whittaker is the big favorite in this fight. Whittaker is coming off a win last fight while Plessis is on a winning streak. In those fights Plessis has won, I don't see the upside Plessis brings at all despite him having power. The cardio and sloppy striking is there for Plessis. Whittaker is coming into this fight and will knock out Plessis easily.

• Dan Hooker vs. Jalin Turner

A lightweight fight is on our hands now! Turner is coming off a loss but was on a winning streak before the last fight. Hooker has been super up and down the past few fights, but the last fight was a win. Hooker is coming off a knockout win, to say the least. Turner is the massive favorite in this fight. The fighters Hooker has fought have been fantastic. Turner has massive power and the chin of Hooker though worries me. The only pathway to victory for Hooker is wrestling. I am liking Turner to find a knockout win.

• Robbie Lawler vs. Niko Price

A welterweight fight! Lawler is coming up in age but he is still producing violence! Price is coming in as the huge favorite. Lawler is coming off a knockout loss less than a year ago. Price has been super inconsistent in the past four fights. Price is coming off a knockout loss six months ago. Price isn't durable at all and violence will be in this fight. I am liking Lawler in this fight due to the unpredictable style and durability of Price.

• Yazmin Jauregui vs. Denise Gomes

A strawweight female fight! Jauregui is coming in as a heavy favorite in this fight. Jauregui looked great in her UFC debut and second fight. Gomes will have to be aggressive in this fight if she wants to win this fight. Jauregui is a better striker and has more power than Gomes. I am leaning towards Jauregui to win this grueling matchup with her volume striking.

• Shannon Ross vs. Jesus Aguilar

The flyweight class is packed and we have a good fight on the books with both fighters coming from DWCS awhile back. Aguilar is the favorite coming into this fight. Ross has okay striking and grappling overall. Aguilar has fantastic grappling and can wrestle Ross to the ground with ease. Aguilar will win this fight with ease and Ross has no pathway to victory. The chin of Ross is unstable in which we seen his knockout losses.

• Vitor Petrino vs. Marcin Prachnio

We have another light heavyweight fight! Prachnio is the older fighter coming into this fight. Petrino is going to shoot for takedowns a ton with wrestling in his back pocket. The striking can be explosive for Petrino. I can see Petrino coming into this fight and knockout Prachnio if his hands are low. Prachnio will only win if he avoids the takedowns and keeps his head on a swivel to avoid the knockout shot. I am loving Petrino in this fight.

• Jimmy Crute vs. Alonzo Menifield

A light heavyweight fight! These two fighters have a similar record so far. The odds are very close together and this is a rematch. Menifield is going to take over in the first round with explosions. The cardio though on both these fighters worries me. Menifield has massive power on the feet. Crute doesn't have a pathway to victory unless it is in round 2 or 3. Menifield can win this fight and knockout Crute.

• Kamuela Kirk vs.Esteban Ribovics

A lightweight fight! Ribovics is coming in as the heavy favorite. The pathway to victory for Kirk is to grapple if he uses the grappling offense. If this fight stays on the feet, Ribovics is going to win this quickly with his striking that will knock out Kirk. I am leaning on the power and fast-paced fighting from Ribovics. All around Ribovics has the tools to win this fight.

• Cameron Saaiman vs Terrence MItchell

A great second fight. Saaiman is on a winning undefeated streak and is one of the youngest fighters in UFC. Mitchell is coming from the ultimate fighter and we know the fighters he has fought. Mitchell has fought horrible fighters then decent fighters. Mitchell has some grappling and takedown defense isn't bad. Mitchell is for sure the older fighter compared to Saaiman. I am liking Saaiman to win this and Mitchell is a step down in competition.

• Tatsuro Taira vs Edgar Chairez

The first fight of the night and here we go! Taira is going to be the massive favorite coming into this fight. This is a rescheduled fight for Taira. This is a step down in competition for Taira. Charirez is coming from DWCS and has a couple wins outside of UFC. The grappling is quick and fast for Taira. This is short notice for Chariez. Taira should handle business.
