UFC 291 Poirier vs Gaethje Breakdown

Dustin Poirier vs. Justin Gaethje

The main event! Poirier and Gaethje are both coming off wins. Poirier is the slight favorite. This is for the BMF belt and this a rematch from 2018. Poirier has great striking and knows how to work the cage distance. Justin has volume and wrestling in his tool box. Justin pushes the pace and loves a blood bath. I am liking Dustin to outwork Justin in this fight.

Jan Blachowicz vs. Alex Pereira

The co-main event! Pereira is coming off a loss to Israel which we know is a nice loss. Jan is a nice striker and is the slight favorite. The experience has shown for Jan and has amazing wins. Jan is coming off a draw and the leg kicks were there last fight. Pereira is a boxer and Israel is a common foe for both fighters. Pereira needs to watch for the knockout punch. This is an amazing fight overall. Jan can win this fight and the chin is there to be hit for Pereira.

Bobby Green vs. Tony Ferguson

Green is coming off a no contest but before that two losses. Ferguson has lost five fights in a row and the damage is adding up so much. Ferguson isn't ready for this fight and it is getting overall bad. Ferguson mentally could be ready but physically it is worrisome. Green has volume on the feet and the wrestling isn't bad at all. Green should win this fight and handle business.

Kevin Holland vs. Michael Chiesa

Chiesa is a legend in the cage and is coming off of two losses that were overall a little over a year. Holland is coming off a knockout win that was two months ago. The wrestling is the main weapon for Chiesa. Holland is a nice striker and has some wrestling. The volume is there for Holland. I am liking Holland in this fight to handle it on the feet. Cheese's career is overall done to be honest.

Stephen Thompson vs. Michel Pereira

Thompson is coming off a win and is the slight favorite in this fight. Pereira is on a winning streak recently. Thompson has quick striking that is unlike any other. The wins that Thompson has are fantastic. Pereira has leg kicks and the striking is on the come up. This a close fight overall. Pereira is going to have to wrestle and the takedown offense is great for him. On the feet, Thompson can win this fight and work around the wrestling. I am 50/50 on this fight so much. I am liking Thompson if I had to pick.

Derrick Lewis vs. Marcos Rogerdio de Lima

What is going on with Lewis recently? Lewis is the slight underdog and is coming off three finishing losses. Lima is coming off of two wins recently. The fighters Lewis has fought though are leaps and bounds above Lima's. Lewis has powerful hands and the cardio can push the pace. Lima has wrestling and hands that can win this fight. Lima will have the leg kicks in his tool belt also. Lima will just have to control this fight and avoid the one clip knockout from Lewis.

Trevin Giles vs. Gabriel Bonfim

Bonfim brother! Bonfim has been on a winning streak and showed his submission skills last fight earning the finish. Giles is the heavy underdog coming off of two decision wins. Giles has powerful hands and is great on the feet overall. Giles is no pushover on the ground. Bonfim has boxing skills and not bad on the feet. Bonfim showed off his submission game like I said above and the wrestling has shown. I do like Bonfim to win this fight by a hair.

Roman Kopylov vs. Claudio Ribeiro

Roman is coming off of two knockout wins while Ribeirio is coming off knockout win about a month ago. Roman has nice kickboxing and has hands for days. Roman has found a way into the UFC after his two prior losses. Ribeiro is not bad on the feet overall where last fight he showed some of his wrestling. Roman can win this fight easily on the feet knocking out Ribeiro based on how technical he is on the feet.

CJ Vergara vs. Vinicius Salvador

CJ is coming off a win and he is overall a great fighter. CJ has power in his hands and will continue to fight to the last minutes. Salvador has nice hands and decent power. CJ should have the upper hand in the striking aspect. I don't see the path for Salvador to win this fight and I think CJ handles this with ease. CJ is a never give up fighter and he can stay in this fight if it gets scrappy.

Jake Matthews vs Darrius Flowers

Jake is a fighter who has grown up his whole life in the cage. The last fights have been up and down for him so far. Flowers is coming from LFA where he had tow finishing wins and a finishing win from DWCS. Jake has nice wrestling and can hang on the feet. Jake is an all around good fighter with his skillset. Last fight, Jake was not at his best at all. Darrius is a wrestler and he is quick on the feet overall. Darrius is still raw though and it shows in some of his fights. I like Jake in this fight and the experience will show.

Miranda Maverick vs. Priscila Cachoeira

This is going to be a short notice fight for Maverick. One month ago Maverick fought and it was a decision loss. Priscila is coming off two wins in which last fight was a knockout win. Maverick with her striking is all over the place but has some takedown offense. Priscila has massive power but the defense is worrisome. The odds are too wide in this fight. I like Miranda but the price tag is wild based on how this fight could go.

Matthew Semelsberger vs. Uros Medic

Welterweight fight! Medic is coming off a finishing win while Matthew is coming off a decision loss. Matthew has leg kicks and pushes the pace in a huge way. Medic is fast on the feet and he will push the pace also. Medic is a guy who finishes fights and will try to find a way as soon as possible. This is going to be a brawl on the feet overall. Matthew has some grappling though. I am liking Matthew by a hair but watch out for Medic.
