UFC 330 Makhachev vs. Machado Garry Fight Breakdown

We have a big card on our hands involving UFC 330! Off to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, we go!

The fight breakdown is below. Bolded is the fighter I have to win.

• Jeremiah Wells vs Myktykbek Orolbai- My pick is Orolbai here to find the submission win. I don't see how Wells will be able to defend the chain takedowns from Orolbai. Easy win for Orolbai against the hometown boy. I don't see how Wells can win this fight.

• Neil Magny vs Ramiz Brahimaj- this is tough for me. Magny has the veteran experience. Brahimaj is coming into this fight as a submission-or-bust guy. I can see Brahimaj accomplishing that. Brahimaj needs to avoid this fight on the feet and take this fight to the ground as soon as possible. Magny will try to extend the fight, but Brahimaj can finish this fight in round one.

• Rafael Tobias vs Lucas Fernando- Knockout time. The pick is Fernando by a mile to me. He is making his UFC debut. Tobias had one fight in the UFC. Fernando should be able to find the knockout. Tobias will look to wrestle, but I like Fernando to keep this on the feet.

• Vicente Luque vs Tresean Gore- I can make a case for both sides of this fight. The question is, can you trust Luque with his fight IQ and injuries in the past? I am slightly on Luque to find a path to win this fight. Gore, I don't think he has anything to offer Luque. I know the story is that he changed his ways in life, but I am still liking Luque.

• Donte Johnson vs Eric McConico- Round one knockout for Johnson. That should be the outcome if Johnson has the mental fight IQ. Johnson should find the knockout if he doesn't play around with McConico. The power is certainly in his favor.

• Jalin Turner vs Kaue Fernandes- This is a tricky fight for me to pick. Turner is coming off of retirement, and he is hard to trust mentally in fights. Turner can win this fight on the ground. Fernandes can win this fight on the feet, especially with the calf kicks. So who do you pick? That is the million-dollar question. Can Fernandes hang with a guy like Turner who has fought great fighters? I am leaning slightly toward Turner. Don't be surprised if Fernandes can win this though.

• Chidi Njokuani vs Joel Alvarez- This fight is going to be Alvarez to me. The level of competetion is higher for Alvarez than Chidi. On the feet, Alvarez can work his way to a win. Chidi may be able to hang on the ground, but Alvarez should be able to control and dominate. I am loving Alvarez here.

• Edson Barboza vs. Esteban Ribovics: The pick is clearly Ribovics. The younger fighter is Ribovics and Barboza is getting older. The knockout is on the table for Ribovics to find it early. Ribovics will finish this fight on the feet and find Barboza's chin quickly.

• Mansur Abdul-Malik vs Dustin Stolzfus- This is a gross fight. Malik should be able to find the knockout, and I am not sure what Stolzfus has to offer. Malik is the heavy favorite in this fight. Malik can win this fight in round one or early round two.

• Charles Johnson vs Eduardo Henrique- Henrique stepped in for an injured Jose Ochoa. This will be a catchweight 130-pound fight. Chapolin is coming from the LFA and was a champion there. He earned a win last year on Dana White's Contender Series but didn't earn a contract there. I expect Johnson to control the fight if he can avoid the knockout. Henrique has power on the feet. Johnson can most certainly win this fight if he doesn't start slow. Four days' notice is tough for Henrique. Do I think he can do it? I certainly do. Henrique can knockout Johnson.

• Mackenzie Dern vs Gillian Robertson- Dern is defending the Strawweight belt. I think this is a smooth course for Dern to win by decision or submission. Dern can win this fight in any aspect. Robertson can't compete with Dern on the mat, including on the feet too. Dern is the pick here, and I don't think Robertson is ready for this step up in competition for her.

• Islam Makhachev vs. Ian Garry — You can make a case for both sides—Makhachev with the takedown offense. I will say this is his toughest fight to date. Garry will be putting up a fight, and Makhachev will have to be on his top game. Can Garry earn the Welterweight Belt? I do like him in this fight, but Islam should control this fight. I want to go with my gut, and based on past main events, the dogs have barked. Give me Garry!
